Thursday 13 December 2012

Wed 12th, another cold walk to work certainly encourages you to walk fast which I guess is good for you at my age. Our xmas window looks great and the shop is full of stock, why we are not busy I just don't understand. All I can say is we could not do more than we are doing it's just so dissapointing. Our lovely community officer Michelle not only arranged to print our traders leaflets but delivered to half or George Street herself. A big thanks to you let's hope my fellow traders appreciate all the effort that has gone into this xmas parade. Sykped the boys in Australia, they are getting very exited about cominig to England to see us and I must admit so am I, we both miss them very much......

Tuesday 11 December 2012

Tues 11th, my word is it cold or what!!, Monday was a good day sold plenty of yarn which is always good sign, it would be good if we could keep it going all week. How wrong can you be today is rubish, never can get any continuaty in our shop we have never worked out why. The local community officers are very kindly printing the leaflets for our childrens parade,as we don't have a buget and there are 160 to do I am very gratefull. Blimey when I have to go to the post office the queue's are round the block, the trouble is since they closed most of them we have no choice. The next couple of weeks should be interesting.

Sunday 9 December 2012

Sunday 9th, Missed a few days so as I sit in an empty shop, it's a good chance to catch up. Friday was knit & natter again, this time is was our own Jan Eaton ( yes the well known crochet author) who decided to give me a hard time. Of cours e it was all about Chelsea and a Spanish waiter and how well her team Man United where doing, all so hurfull. Not a bad day in the shop, but quite a few vey difficult customers, poor old Lynn, but I must say she is amazingly patient. Sat the weather was dry and sunny and walking to work I was feeling very optimistic, which just goes to show how wrong you can be. The morning was one of the worst Sat mornings I can remember, what a disaster this time of the year. The only consolation for the day, Chelsea won at last what a relief. Back to today the shop is still empty, George Street is deserted, some times it,s very difficult not to get depressed, this time of the year we just have to be busy I just don't understand why we are not. Oh well only another two and half hours to go and then home.

Thursday 6 December 2012

Thursday 6th Dec. It's that time of day again 4-30 on my own and it's cold and raining not a customer in site and who can blame them. Only Chelsea can at last win a game and still manage to loose by not qualifying for Europe, I give up. Not a lot to report just another routine day in the life of yarn shop owner Thursday is often a quiet day I have never worked out why, still it's Friday and knitt and Natter tomorrow so let's hope for better.. As for that stupid chancelor in spite of all small shops begging him not to make such a big increase to the buisiness rates he went ahead anyway. Has he know concept on how much we are suffering, most of us will just not be able to survive the present climate, especially as he announced its going on for longer. Pratt......

Wednesday 5 December 2012

Wed 5th December. Back on track what a freezing cold day it was even snowing as I walked to work, I don,t know about you but I am not a fan of the weather when it's this cold. It's 4pm Lynn is about to go home and it's Jacks day off, so her e am I on my own and not a sole in site.As you can guess it's not been a good day in the shop, but good news on the Xmas parade. The open top bus is booked,a santa is arranged to travel on the top deck, the mayor is coming and everything is organised with the kids from St Andrews school. All I have to do is try and get all the shops involved and enter into the spirit of it all. Don't hold your breath.... Chelsea are playing tonight unfortunately even should they win and that's a big if there is not much chance of them going through to the next round. Not sure of the weather tomorow but hope to have a delivery of Bretts Marble chunky, such a popular yarn, lets hope it turns up.

Tuesday 4 December 2012

Tues 12th, don't know what is going on but every time I try and post something it gets wiped out, facebook is obviously trying to tell me something. So I will give it one last try. Friday 30th Nov. Knitt And natter day, good turn out everything very civilised untill dogey Emma arrived, she is such a bad influence on the others, they then all start demanding tea and coffee and generally give me a hard time. Good job I am easy going... Jack still not good so trying to keep her at home as much as poss. allowed an hour off and went with my buddie Steve to a cafe called carrots and had a very naughty Egg and bacon sandwich with chips, wonderfull... Sat 1st Dec, can,t believe how quick it has come around, still not as busy as last year, which is a real worry, with xmas allready looming. Things did not get any better with Chelsea loosing again, what is going on, the trouble is I don't think it will get any better. As trade is not good decided to open on my own on Sunday. Sunday 2nd. Perfect morning for a walk, opened up at 11am in a deserted George Street, but turned out better than expected, and such nice customers, so the five hours did not drag as much as I feared, and a big thanks to my friend Chris who came in and had coffee with me to help the time go by. Have to say I was pleased when4pm came and I could go home. Unfortunately will have to open next Sunday!!! Just 14 days before Carrie and the boys come over from Australia, I am so exiter

Friday 30 November 2012

Day 19. Saturday morning raining to hard to walk to work. 5pm still raining hard has not stopped all day. Such a shame this time of year, a complete wash out on a day we would have hoped to be busy. Oh well at least it is Sunday tomorowi an d a day off, lot's of gardening to do and an invitation to diner in the evening, can't be bad. Knitters Improvers class was full and all acounts was a great succes, in fact the ladies all got on so well they all arranged to meet in the pub. Next weel the last before December let's hope it's a busy one.
Day 21 Cold start to the day guess winter is on the way. Poor Jack has been ill in bed all day, looks like she might have caught this horrible vomiting bug.Had to shoot home to see how the poor love was , not good I am afraid if any thing s he was worse, guess she will have to spend another day in bed. It's such a shame as she has tickets to go to the ballet tomorow and she was so looking forward to going. Another day another game for Chelsea, it is very difficult to stay psotive at the moment, you find yourself just looking for signs of improvement, let's hope there are some tonight. Had a delivery of Rico Galaxy, the colours look so good on the shelf, especially with the sequins glittering in the spotlihghts. By the way you will have to exuse the spelling as I obviously can't spell and there appears to be no spell-check on facebook!!!
Day 20. Another Monday another rainy day, what is going on. Monday is usually a decent day but not today it's starting to get depressing, we desperately need a good day. Even Chelsea have failed to lift the gloom, although at least we did k eep a clean sheet. As trade is so quiet I am going to have to open the Sundays in December, so if any one is passing do drop in and keep me company, I was hoping not to have to open this year, but needs must. Lynne has started to knit a trendy kids animal hat, In this case a panda, what a star she is, but don't tell anyone I said so. Please don't rain tomorrow

Friday 23 November 2012

Day 18. Another Friday, another knit and natter meeting, only 7 this time, much more manageable not so much catering. It's certainly been a funny old day, very few people about, I think people must be holding back at end of month getting rea dy for thier Xmas shopping. Jacks not in today, she is helping organise a lunch for 80 ladies and hope's to raise 2-3 thousand for our favourite childrens charity Extra Time. Let's hope all goes well. Just heard weather forcaste for Sat, Heavy rain and very windy all day, just not what want this time of the year.... If any one out there is thinking of visiting the shop, please don't let the weather put you of you will recieve a warm welcome.

Thursday 22 November 2012

Day 17. So Chelsea have a new temp manager, must admit it would not be my first choice, but hopefully just to the end of the season and then with a bit of luck Mr guardiola will take over. Jack walked through the park on the way to work, ni ce way to start the day. Can't work George street out, busy yesterday absolutely dead today where do all the people disappear to. Shop starting to look very christmasy, only 3 weeks before our daughter and grandchildren arrive from Australia can,t wait to see them. Great new yarn arrived Rico fashion country aran, colours look so good on the shelves and well priced for a such a quality product.

Wednesday 21 November 2012

Day 16 Well well Well Chelsea have sacked Di Matteo what a start to the day. Made the wrong decision and walked to work and got soaked, never mind enjoyed thinking about future managers. Unfortuneatly driving rain and wind equals no trade, still it gave me chance to clear up lot's of jobs that needed doing. Bergere's new yarn Recycline arrived, what fantastic value 20% wool and only £1-50 a ball. Check out the colours on Coccons web site,amazing....
Day 15 and I am back on track. Had to catch a bus as it was raining hard and it's gone on raining all day just for a change, just not conducive to good trade. Jacks been doing our xmas window it looks great. Went to St Adrews school and the y have agreed for the children to march down George street on 18th December at 2_30 and judge the Xmas windows and award the prize to the winner. I am going to a meeting with the Council tonight so it will be good to report the good news as they are putting up the prize of £150. It's now 5pm and not a good day, let's hope tommorow will be better. Big night for my beloved Chelsea, I must admit I am very nervous. Come on you Blues....

Tuesday 20 November 2012

Day 13, don't know what has happened Friay's message appears to have got lost. So just to summerize 10 ladies for knit and natter, the classroom was full to bursting, spent most of the morning making teas and coffes and washing up. Must adm it such a good bunch, but boy can they natter. Was expecting a delivery of Sirdar Bonus which eventually arived just as we where closing causing toal chaos.Never mind it was a good day that is the most important thing and we can fill the shop up for Saturday

Thursday 15 November 2012

Day 12, feel a bit guilty, been next door to Costa for coffee twice today. Thursday is often the quietest day of the week and today is no exception, so I don't feel guilty about sneaking out . Had a delivery of haberdashery we are definatel y selling more than we used to do, but it is very time consuming keeping up with it all, so many small fiddlly items. It's 4-30pm dark outside, I am on my own for another hour and not a customer in sight. Such is the is the lot of a wool shop owner. Friday tomorow is knit and natter must get the room ready the ladies or they will give me a hard time again.

Wednesday 14 November 2012

Day 11

Day 11, Sorry missed tuesaday just don't know where the time went. Today is a lovely sunny day, started well as Jack walked some of the way with me to work. Some mornings like today Hove Park is so beatufil, good way to start the day. Have you noticed how fast the days go, one minute Lyn arrives at 10-30am the next I am covering her lunch then it's tea time and before you catch your breath it's 4 pm and it's time for her to go and I am back behind the counter untill 5-30 and that's another day gone.

Tuesday 13 November 2012

Day 10 , what a touch Sunday was such a lovely day spent the day in the garden so much to do. Another Monday my how Quickly they come round must be a sign of my age. Not a good result for Chelsea and it's raining again, but on the bright si de Lynne our neighbour is working to day she cheers everyone up our little ray of sunshine. Bretts Marble Chunky came in to day, such a well priced and great yarn to knit with very popular with all the ladies. Let's hope the weather is better tomorow and this lousy coldn start's clearing up.

Saturday 10 November 2012

Day 8 Both Jack and I have got some nasty cold bug so both feeling pretty lousy but hey good news Chelsea had a realy important win, certainly helps lift the spirits. The shop seems to be stuck in a quiet spell which really puts the pressur e on, hope it ends soon. My local councillor delivered the leaflets for the xmas window competion, they look great have to get my act together, can't believe it's Friday tomorrow knit & natter again

Monday 5 November 2012

chelsea

Big game tonight,so difficult to pick the right team. Which is more important to try and finish in the top four or win the F.A. cup. For me it is to finish in top 4 still can't imagine winning the European Cup with all the players that are ineligible. So good luck to the boys tonight
